Academy Award winner Raymond Boy who did storyboard artwork for Michael Ballhaus, Janusz Kaminski, Robert Redford and Wolfgang Petersen, works as a film director, screenwriter and storyboard artist in Berlin.
In his early years he created cartoons and comics and published his own comic fanzine. Then German and English papers and magazines started publishing his comic series as for example Europe’s biggest youth magazine BRAVO and TAZ.
Raymond Boy studied Visual Communication and Design at the Fachhochschule Köln, after his diploma in Design he completed postgraduate studies of Film Directing at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne.
His diploma project, the short film AN ORDINARY MISSION (EIN EINFACHER AUFTRAG, starring Barbara de Koy and Armin Rohde), a comedy about a fairy who wants to fulfill three wishes to a bricklayer, received various international awards. Beside the AUDIENCE AWARD at the New Port Film Festival, the CHAPLIN trophy at the Festival Du Film de Comedy in Vevey and the PREMIERE AWARD at the International Short Film Festival Hamburg, Raymond Boy received the FOREIGN STUDENT ACADEMY AWARD from the Academy of Media Arts and Sciences in 1997.
As a director he realized commercials for cinema and TV, the short SKILLED, theatre plays like Harold Pinter’s drama THE DUMP WAITER, starring Gernot Schmidt and Jim Boerlin. He also realized the first German 3D real acting film, the martial arts short KILLING BEE. As a director and consultant – together with Heike Melba Fendel of Barbarella Entertainment – he established public script readings in Germany, following the example of THE 5th NIGHT by the Nuyorkian Poets Café in New York City.
As a storyboarder he works with professionals as Brian Percival, Brian Kirk, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Caleb Dechanel, Dennis Gansel, Fatih Akin and Uli Edel on international TV Series, commercials and movies like THE BOOK THIEF, THE HORSE WHISPERER, COLOGNIA DIGNIDAD, PASSANGERS, RABBIT WITHOUT EARS, DAS ADLON, TSCHICK, WORK WITHOUT AUTHOR and Golden Globe Winner IN THE FADE.
Raymond Boy works as a script consultant for writers, directors and producers and develops screenplays for his own feature film projects. Besides he gives workshops in STORYBOARD/STORYBOARDING and teaches VISUAL STORYTELLING and DIRECTING METHODS at colleges and universities like the German Film Academy Berlin (DFFB) and the Bauhaus University in Weimar.
